World Accreditation Day Symposium Held on 9 June!

Hosted by TÜSEB’s Türkiye Health Care Quality and Accreditation Institute (TÜSKA) and Ankara Etlik City Hospital, a symposium titled “Three Perspectives, One Goal: The Accreditation Journey in Healthcare” was organized as part of World Accreditation Day on 9 June. The symposium aimed to strengthen the culture of quality and accreditation in healthcare services, enhance cooperation among stakeholders, and promote the sharing of knowledge and experience regarding accreditation processes.

The symposium commenced with opening remarks. In his opening speech, TÜSEB President Prof. Ümit KERVAN stated that accreditation activities had gained significant momentum through TÜSKA’s recent initiatives and that TÜSEB had achieved major accomplishments through its Technology Transfer Offices and project calls within the framework of its vision of a productive healthcare ecosystem. Dr. Hasan GÜLER, Advisor to the Minister of Health and Member of the TÜSKA Accreditation Assessment and Certification Board (AYBK), highlighted the evolution and institutionalization of healthcare quality and accreditation efforts in Türkiye through the Health Transformation Program. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bayram DEMİR, President of TÜSKA, emphasized that the regulatory developments introduced over the past year had made World Accreditation Day even more meaningful for Türkiye. Dr. Ali Niyazi KURTCEBE, Director of Health for Ankara Province, noted that significant efforts were being undertaken at the provincial level regarding healthcare accreditation processes and expressed his satisfaction with TÜSKA’s support for these initiatives. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sırrı KOTANOĞLU, Coordinating Chief Physician of Etlik City Hospital, expressed his pleasure in hosting the symposium and stated that the hospitals within the Etlik campus were rapidly preparing for accreditation processes, underlining the importance of the training and guidance provided by TÜSKA in this regard.

Following the opening speeches, a Health Tourism Technical Support Project Protocol was signed under the chairmanship of TÜSEB President Prof. Dr. Ümit KERVAN by the Ankara Development Agency, the Ankara Provincial Health Directorate, and TÜSKA. The protocol aims to support quality-oriented transformation in health tourism and strengthen inter-institutional cooperation. Following the signing ceremony, Dr. Dilek TARHAN, Head of the Department of Healthcare Quality, Accreditation and Employee Rights at the Ministry of Health, delivered a presentation entitled “The Vision for Quality in Healthcare Services in Türkiye”, while the President of TÜSKA presented “The Future of Accreditation in Türkiye: The TÜSKA Vision.”

As part of the programme, a panel session entitled “Challenges, Lessons Learned, and Contributions of TÜSKA Accreditation”, moderated by Prof. Dr. Keziban AVCI, was held. During the session, Prof. Dr. Levent ÖZTÜRK, Coordinating Chief Physician of Bilkent City Hospital representing a public hospital; Prof. Dr. Mehmet Eray KOLSUZ, Chief Physician of Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry Hospital representing a university hospital; and Dr. Hakkı AKMAN, General Manager of Güven Hospital representing a private hospital, shared their experiences regarding the challenges encountered during the accreditation process, the benefits achieved, and examples of good practices.

The symposium, which contributed to supporting quality-oriented transformation in healthcare services and promoting the widespread adoption of the accreditation culture, was successfully concluded following strong participation and productive sessions.
